About
Glean is a simple way to ask for food, offer food, or coordinate practical help across Prince Edward Island. You can use it on the web, by text, or by email.
No accounts. No public contact info. Just neighbours helping neighbours.
The name comes from an old practice: farmers would leave the edges of their fields unharvested so that anyone who needed food could come and gather what remained. The word for that gathering was gleaning.
How to use Glean
On the web
Browse the feed, post a need or offer, and reply privately. When you post or respond, you can choose web chat, anonymous text relay, email link recovery, or any combination.

If you send a general note instead of a request or offer, it goes to the shared inbox for review instead of appearing on the public feed.
How private conversations work
Replies stay anonymous. People can continue a conversation through a private web link, text relay, email link, or more than one at the same time. Phone numbers and email addresses are used only for delivery and are not shown publicly.
- If you choose web chat only, keep your private link safe.
- If you link a phone number, you can continue by texting the thread code to (902) 200-2371.
- If you link an email address, you will get your private conversation link there and future reply alerts.
- If you wrote down a private code, you can reopen it later at /open.
- You can add phone or email later from your post dashboard or inside the conversation if you want recovery across devices.
What to include
- Say whether this is a need or an offer.
- Be specific about what is needed or available.
- Include the area and timing if it matters.
- Keep it short, direct, and practical.
Example: Need groceries for two adults in Charlottetown today. Or: Offer: extra produce and pantry items in Summerside for pickup this evening.
Privacy and cleanup
Glean does not require accounts or passwords. Posts expire automatically, and expired or deleted posts are permanently removed after 7 days. Email addresses and phone numbers are never shown publicly. The service is designed for practical coordination, not profiles or social networking.
